Because Only Together

will we beat childhood cancer

our why

Every year, another 100 Oklahoma children are diagnosed with cancer.

Hundreds are on active treatment at Oklahoma’s only comprehensive cancer center.

These children are some of the bravest people we know- little ones fighting a big enemy called CANCER.

We are a small group of dedicated volunteers committed to serving children fighting cancer, their families and the healthcare professionals who help them battle cancer.

Our goal is to help these children and their families get a break from the rigors of treatment several times a year, to improve treatments and ultimately to help find a cure for childhood cancer.

because cancer should not be a childhood disease!

WHAT WE DO

01

We Support

Children fighting cancer are some of the bravest people we know. We aim to make their cancer journey a little easier. We know that childhood cancer impacts the entire family. Siblings often lose a parent to the demanding schedule of treatment for the child diagnosed with cancer. Sometimes, a parent must leave a job to tend to the needs of the child with cancer. The financial challenges can be immense, straining family resources. Regular family outings and vacations often become extravagances beyond the reach of these families’ finances. Friends of the Jimmy Everest Center provides opportunities each year for families to be together as a family and to escape the rigors of cancer treatment at least for a time.

02

We Build Connections

With a team of dedicated volunteers, we plan and execute special VIP events several times a year for Oklahoma children fighting cancer and their families.  These events provide opportunities for childhood cancer patients to just be kids. At these events, young cancer patients get a chance to connect with other young cancer patients, siblings connect with other siblings and parents connect with other parents, forming friendships and support for one another, helping them realize they are not alone in the fight.

03

We Boost Awareness

Through events, community and media partners, Friends of the Jimmy Everest Center works to raise public awareness of childhood cancer, of the need for better cancer treatments for children with fewer side effects, which can only be accomplished by advancing childhood cancer research.  Currently, only 4% of federal research funding goes to childhood cancer. Pediatric cancer oncologists believe that every pediatric patient deserves the best understanding and treatment for their cancers and we agree!

04

We Fundraise

All Friends of the Jimmy Everest Center events and fundraising efforts are fueled entirely by volunteers. We have no employees and an all-volunteer board. By minimizing expenses and relying on the gifts of time by our dedicated volunteers, we are able to devote the funds we raise to supporting cancer patients, their families and the medical professionals who serve them, as well as to the advancement of childhood research and care.

05

We Spread Hope

As Friends of the Jimmy Everest Center Foundation continues to grow and increase donations and grants, the foundation hopes to expand the number and capacity of the events it offers each year, to expand opportunities for young cancer patients and their families to connect with one another, to provide funding to enhance the patient experience at the Jimmy Everest Center, and to provide seed grant funding for promising young researchers whose work offers hope for improved childhood cancer treatments and care.

IMPACT STORIES

Kate Henderson- Parent

“It means a lot to us just to have people we don’t even know think about creating just a normal kid experience for our kids, who don’t really get to be normal right now. It’s the best gift anyone could give us.”

Miller Hines- Cancer Fighter

“I think it’s a good cause. Thank you, just for all of us kids, letting us have this experience is a blessing from every single person that donated.”

Lauren Bridgeman- Parent

“Having families that know the journey that you’re going on and can kind of sympathize with you and give you that, ‘Hey, you’re doing a good job, I totally get you,’ type of moment is really important.”
